On this snowy morning, I am reminded of the poem-- Over the river, and through the wood, To Grandfather's house we go; the horse knows the way to carry the sleigh through the white and drifted snow. Over the river, and through the wood, to Grandfather's house away! We would not stop for doll or top, for 'tis Thanksgiving Day. I hope you enjoy time with your family and friends tomorrow. And when you start shopping, here is the coupon code I have promised for my ETSY store (drum roll please!); BLACKGOLD FOR 15 % off your purchases. I promised to ell you what I do with Christmas Wrapping paper, can you guess??? I recycle it into plantable notecards like my herb line or my cat cards pictured below. I also can make seed bombs like the other picture. It is not surprising that I have my parent's recycling gene in my body since I grew up watching how carefully they would unwrap presents. I can not stand to see paper in the trash can. I go around my school and pull paper out of the garbage can and put in the recycling bin if I don't keep it for my students to draw on. haha..
Don't forget---in two days, I will give you my Black Friday Cyber Monday code to save you money!! Do you know how to recycle Christmas paper, ribbon and bows year after year? In memory of my parents, who lived during the Great Depression, they shared many cost saving methods every day of my life that I still find useful today. On Christmas day, I would watch as my parents carefully unwrapped their presents by finding where the tape was holding the paper on the package. Painstakingly remove the tape before taking the paper off the package and open the box to discover their present from me, my sister, relatives or friends. After all the gifts were opened, they would hand press and smooth the wrapping paper out to store in a gift box for next year. The following year, we would have to use the paper by finding a piece of wrapping paper big enough to cover the present we would be wrapping. If the paper was torn, we would have to cut it to even out to fit the current present. We should cut off the tape marks to make the paper look as fresh as possible. How many of you readers go to such lengths to save money on wrapping paper? We would also save the bows and in fact I still to this day save bows. Look in the photo and tell me which is the oldest bow? Tomorrow, I will share what I do with my wrapping paper. PS Don't forget, Wednesday the 27th, I will share my Black Friday coupon code. I just have a minute as I am sure you do with Thanksgiving just a week away, so I will share my handmade paper folded gift card holder. Each one in my store has US currency shredded into my pulp. No, I am not rich enough to shred my own currency, which is illegal, but I buy the shredded money from the US Treasury Dept. I have fun including it in my cards and these gift card holders. What fun item would you like to see in my paper? After last week's post, I am going into hyper drive. I spent tonight painting the holly berries on these cards. I had previously painted the leaves. I am starting to see more Christmas commercials on TV and displays in the stores, so I am more motivated to paint and package these cards. Do you still send Christmas cards to friends and family or do you send party invitations through the mail? The funny thing about these cards is that I made them in May when the holly bush leaves were new. This year, the leaves were the biggest I had ever seen. I also make these cards in May because the leaves are more pliable and the thorns are less sticky. The leaves turn brown once I have dried the paper, so there is an original painting of a holly leaf on each card. Don't forget to check my blog for the Black Friday and Cyber Monday code--released here first---hint on Wednesday the 27th!! |
