Wow, yesterday was amazing! I had so much fun learning a new method of making a recycled journal. It is called long stitch and each signature is individually stitched into the spine. There is a lot of cutting of paper and folding.

I am so excited about tomorrow! I am going to my best artists friend's studio to take an upcycle beer journal class with some of her friends. I bet I will know some of them because they are from the town where I teach art.
So there will be a full day of upcycling beer six packs into journals. I will post my efforts Sunday. Then afterwards we are all going out to eat! I am soooo looking forward to being with artists and adults! What are you doing this weekend? Remembering the snow fall .....
Last week at this time of day, we were prepared for the beautiful snow. I enjoy watching the snow fall to earth. Think about how it is formed--each flake is formed around a small piece if dust or dirt! How amazing that something so pretty is formed around dirt which I try my best to get rid of in my house. Here is a picture to ponder. During my many snow days, I started making recycled journals from scraps of paper and board around my studio. I added more color and found lots of fun buttons and leather for the closures. I also found papers which my son had given me of different flying machines. I used those pics as facing pages. Here is one photo collage.
I hope you are having a great Valentine's Day. Ashby and I built these snow people today. We were starting out building one snow man but we were both rolling snow balls and they both turned out to be the base. haha
Then we came up with the idea of two in love. We hope they make it on the local TV channel. What is your favorite memory of building snowmen? With over 8 inches of snow in North Carolina, it had been the perfect storm to sled and make snow cream. We have had hot chocolate and soup after 2 full hours of playing and sledding. I have taken time off from creating paper and journals. It rejuvenates my creativity.
What have you been doing if you have snow? Are you prepared for Valentine's Day? What do you get your sweetheart? Candy? Chocolate? Card? Dinner and a night out? Whatever you and your better half do, make sure you agree. Love is knowing your spouse or partner and taking time to enjoy each other. Gifts are great but as we get older, sometimes they gift gets lost in the shuffle of day to day living. My most memorable gift from my husband didn't cost a penny. When we lived at the coast of SC, one Valentine's Day, the azaleas were blooming. While I was at work, my husband went out and collected lots of the blooms and put a small vase in every room, even the bathroom. (We had cats who didn't eat flowers!) He wrote "I love You notes" and placed with each set of flowers. The flowers are long gone but the memory of that special gift from the heart has meant more to me over the years than the gifts. What is your most memorable Valentine's Day gift--either one you gave or received? |
