Paper money was issued in the 11th century. US currency paper is made by Crane's stationery using a secret formula. I learned the info at Treasury tour. Our money has linen fibers which gives it strength to go through the wash. When the bills look really worn, the banks ship them back to the Treasury. The Treasury shreds the bills and repacks to then sell the public. That is how I get money shreds in my paper to make fun cards.
The picture above shows a gift card holder in my store with money in the pulp. It is in my etsy store.
